Gobble, Gobble: Google Wants To Steal Your Website’s Local Event Calendar Traffic Too

PALM BEACH, FL – No, its not quite Thanksgiving yet; there are still several weeks to go. I wasn’t referring to [that] type of “Gobble, Gobble”, with a turkey or thanksgiving or any of that. But Gobble, Gobble seems to fit the bill. Because if you were to ask Google, every day is like a feeding frenzy.

I’m talking about Google’s insatiable appetite to steal all of your content so that there is little traffic left for you. In fact, I bet Google would much prefer if your website didn’t exist at all.

It’s just so obvious that the world’s best search engine, must have an event calendar. I mean – what good would any search engine be, if it were not the publisher and or ‘provider’ of all ill-gotten info, to solve every conceivable need or interest a user might have?

Event calendars are often a good traffic building opportunity for local websites, especially sites built on geographic domain names which are directly related to specific communities, but this search result below displays how Google, like with everything else, is working overtime to subconsciously train users minds that anything anyone ever needs to know, doesn’t have to be “searched” for and found on a website…. it just needs to be requested.

Google is slowly and carefully, calmly and quietly, training its users (which is likely 90% of the planet) that relying on websites for information is an old, archaic, primitive and outdated process.

In the above example, Google is showing information from EventBrite.com (I’m going to help them out by giving them a clear and evident link; if only Google were so kind). A user is presented with four main options, two of which are Google services; add to Google calendar, Directions on Google Maps, get tickets where Google can control some suggested sites, and a sharing option.

Landing on the website which serves as the source of the information is likely to be the last thing a user would click on; the small text link which says ‘view more’ (which typically just expands a description). How convenient.
