Hyphenated Domain Name Fetches Over $61k In Latest SEDO Weekly Sales Report

April 27, 2021 By John Colascione Leave a Comment

Sedo

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – The hyphenated domain name “TN-I.com” sold at $61,990 this past week according to the latest SEDO.com weekly domain sales report. The web address is currently parked. I've always avoided hyphenated domains unless the words being used are ordinarily hyphenated or it separates two extremely popular words mostly used together. There are some instances where this works well, but with TN-I, let's just say I'm not a fan of this one. Also … [Read more...]

December 17, 2019 By John Colascione Leave a Comment

Here is one of the latest email scams circulating what is probably hundreds of thousands of inboxes, just in time for Christmas. Here is how it all plays out: You receive an email which appears to be from American Express, but it isn't, it's from some scrupulous hacker hiding somewhere behind a computer who is … [Read more...]

“Cold Email,” Sold “Democracy.com” To Billionaire Owner of Mavericks, Mark Cuban

November 25, 2019 By John Colascione 3 Comments

PALM BEACH, FL – Not that the name needed it, but when an auction for a web address is featured in the New York Times, you can rest assured that it is a pretty desirable name. That’s what happened last month when “Democracy.com” went up for sale in a “sealed auction” where none of the bidders would see the dollar amount of other participating bidders. The auction was originally to close on Oct. 25, 2019 but was then extended to November 7, 2019 based on what was said to … [Read more...]

Will Sale of Dead News Site “Examiner.com” Attract Authentic Bidders at GoDaddy?

October 28, 2019 By John Colascione 1 Comment

PALM BEACH, FL – A domain name, that by itself, could potentially fool even one of the most complex computer algorithms such as Google's rankings technology, into trusting that a site is a “big brand”. There is probably not a lot of them out there that could easily be scooped up, however, that’s pretty much what’s for sale at GoDaddy auctions this week, with the bidding for the domain name previously used by the defunct news site “Examiner.com” reaching $69,666.00 - so … [Read more...]

October 27, 2019 By John Colascione 6 Comments

PALM BEACH, FL – “.NYC”, it’s called “The Official Web Address for New Yorkers”, and a top level domain name which is restricted to being registered only by “lawful” residents and/or businesses within the New York City area (the five boroughs). The slogan of being the “Official” web address of the City its named after isn’t just fluff marketing material either; it actually is, The Official URL, according to NYC.gov. The legal entity-registry is recorded as “The City … [Read more...]

October 9, 2019 By John Colascione 1 Comment

PALM BEACH, FL – On May 30, 2019, the domain name “Voice.com” was sold in a record-breaking all-cash transaction that has officially gone down in the history books as the highest valued domain name sale ever on record when Blockchain company “Block.one” purchased the .com web address from MicroStrategy Incorporated (Nasdaq: MSTR) for $30,000,000.00. The sale lit-up the domain industry when it was announced in June of this year in a MicroStrategy press release. Domain … [Read more...]

Joe Biden Still Not Sure About Domain Names, What They Are, How They Work

October 1, 2019 By John Colascione Leave a Comment

PALM BEACH, FL - Apparently, Presidential hopeful Joe Biden still doesn’t have a decent grasp on what exactly web site addresses are, how they work - or when to forgo them entirely while trying to give out SMS short codes for text messaging purposes. Turns out ole “foot-in mouth” Joe did it again when he confused an entire nationwide audience by telling them, 'If you agree with me, Go to Joe 30330' which he appeared to barely get out properly, when he should have told … [Read more...]

Web Address Sells for $30 Million in Cash; Represents ‘Extraordinary’ Investment

June 18, 2019 By John Colascione 3 Comments

PALM BEACH – A company which many ordinary people (non-industry) have probably never heard of called “MicroStrategy Incorporated” has announced it has sold an Internet web address, Voice.com for $30,000,000.00 in cash. As you can see, that’s a lot of zero’s in that number and represents what many who invest and trade in Internet domain names likely find so exhilarating about it. For those who are not that savvy when it comes to Internet domain names, this a “website … [Read more...]

September 22, 2018 By John Colascione 7 Comments

NEW YORK, NY – Our best friends at Google are quietly scheming behind the scenes to through yet another curve ball misconstrued as a benefit to all web users, especially us domain name owners, brokers, investors and enthusiasts. They’re always up to something neat aren’t they? According to Wired.com, Google has been working, at least since 2014, on replacing the Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) we use as web addresses with something a little less complicated. After all, … [Read more...]

Sass illustrates Significant Disadvantage; Match Game: Brandable Vs Keywords

June 16, 2018 By John Colascione 7 Comments

NEW YORK, NY - .CLUB Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Sass gave a keynote speech at NamesCon Europe 2018 and did what appeared to be a fantastic job of illustrating, through various different examples, just how bad it is when coming up with your own word (one which has no meaning) when choosing your domain name. Sass accomplished this by showing domain names made up of unknown words on screen and had attendees guess, by multiple choice, what they believed the businesses did that … [Read more...]

The “Super Secret” to Appraising Your .com Domain Name for 2018 and Beyond

January 13, 2018 By John Colascione 5 Comments

NEW YORK, NY - There have been many changes over the last five years when it comes to Internet domain names. I will say that this pertains to the average domain (web address), not so much a super-premium domain name, but your average .com two or three word domain name. For the most part, pricing has gone down, for whatever reason. Some changes you may have noticed such as: The EMD Penalty: Where Google will not simply rank the domain at the top of search for its exact … [Read more...]
