Later this month, Google will be launching a new top level domain name that is sure to attract attention. Known as a “domain hack,” the new “.ing” domain name can be used to spell out clever takes of common phrases to create memorable website names; examples include “Fish.ing,” “Out.ing,” “Engineer.ing,” and “Breed.ing,” among countless others.

As with many new gTLDs, there will be A) a sunrise period for trademark holders and then B) an auction-style initial offering early access period; that will allow early adopters to acquire the .ing domain sooner than other users, albeit at a greatly increased price – and this time, it is much, much greater. The early access period will run from October 31 to December 5.

101Domain is one of the registrars who will be offering early access to the .ing domain starting on October 31, and from there the price is slated to drop every week; then, as of November 29, prices will drop every day. But for those hoping to jump on the bandwagon early, during week one you will have to plunk down a whopping $1,100,000 to secure the .ing domain before anyone else.

The following week, that price will drop down to $340,000, followed by $115,000 during week 3, and $35,000 during week 4. However, penny pinchers may wish to wait until December 5, when that amount will finally be lowered to its everyday price of $14.99.

Google’s wholesale price for the domain is currently unknown; however, another registrar that will be offering early access to .ing – webnames.ca – is asking the incredible sum of $1.6 million during the first week of availability.

If you are interested in .ing but do not qualify for Sunrise or do not want to order in Landrush you can place a “pre-order” for $14.99 (with 101Domain). If the name isn’t registered in sunrise or landrush, and is not reserved by the registry, the system can register the name as soon as the General Availability period starts.
