Phishing: Watch-out for New Dangerous Godaddy Email Phishing Attempt

NEW YORK, NY – This is just a quick reminder to remain vigilant of all sorts of threats from hackers, email-spoofers, phishers and scammers; you can never let your guard down these days when it comes to your accounts, financial information and especially your domain accounts, because loss of your domain name can be loss of your business and will likely be permanent. Just this week news broke about an Equifax hack that hit credit histories of up to 143 million Americans.

This Godaddy Phishing attempt (shown below) wound up in my spam box, did not identify me by name, had the wrong customer number and displayed the true URL locations of the links when hovering over them, so this was a relatively weak attempt, but can still fool thousands of people who do not typically notice these sorts of red-flags.

These images below show the attempts weaknesses:

  • Here is one going after NS customers and explains what the scammers are trying to accomplish.
  • Here is an example of why you should start using two-factor authentication.
  • Here is one which is much more likely to fool even the smartest IT professionals.

I think a lot of people forget to hover over email links prior to clicking them. Making consumers and new investors aware is a great idea. The more the word gets out, the safer people will be.
