SAN FRANCISCO, CA – One month after Squarespace entered into a deal to purchase Google Domains – which encompasses all of it’s assets, including approximately 10 million domains that are owned by millions of customers – web content management company WordPress has announced they would be offering former Google users free domain transfers for the first million domains that choose to move to their platform for a limited time.

Currently, Google Domains customers are scheduled to be moved over to Squarespace by the third quarter of 2023, and the announcement this week by WordPress is seen as a way to lure domains to their service by offering not only to pay the transfer fee, but to also extend domain registration for an extra year.

In addition, once a customer has successfully migrated to their platform, WordPress is claiming that the renewal fee for each transferred domain will be the same or lower than it was when the customer was hosted by Google Domains, as per a blog post posted by the company.

“That goes for every one of the 400+ top-level domains (TLDs) we offer,” the post said. “This will also apply to existing WordPress.com customers across most domains, meaning that in many cases we’re lowering your prices.”

Part of the purchase agreement between Squarespace and Google Domains involves a promise to adhere to the renewal prices for all current Google Domains customers for a minimum of one year.

The news is true: We're paying for Google Domains customers to transfer to https://t.co/eRvNKWaolr! Oh, and we've got some added benefits, too:

However, in an attempt to further sweeten the pot and entice Google Domains customers to transfer to their service, WordPress is also offering free SSL installation on all hosted domains in addition to real-time backups, one-click restores, fast DNS speeds, and free piracy protection for all except some non-US domains.

WordPress is primarily known for its content management system that allows users to create simple and easy to use websites, in addition to having functioned as a domain registrar for over 10 years.
