OTTAWA – Shopify paid $200,000 for Shop.app in 2020. Six years later, it has reportedly spent $99 million to secure Shop.com, setting a new high for publicly reported all-cash domain sales. DNJournal has placed the transaction at the top of its sales charts, ahead of AI.com’s $70 million sale and Voice.com’s $30 million sale. The new record is $29 million above the previous mark, a jump of roughly 41%.

The price emerged November 3, when domain researcher George Kirikos identified a $99 million expenditure listed as “Acquisition of intangible assets” in Shopify’s quarterly disclosures. Shopify disclosed the amount but did not identify Shop.com as the asset purchased in that entry. Kirikos connected the expenditure to the domain acquisition, and DNJournal accepted $99 million as the sale price, citing his long record of uncovering high-value domain transactions through careful examination of public financial statements.

Market America, a North Carolina-based product brokerage and direct-selling company offering health, beauty, household, and other consumer products, announced the completed sale on September 28, without disclosing the purchase price. The company moved its shopping business to MarketAmerica.com, rebuilt on Shopify’s platform. Shopify then moved Shop’s web experience from Shop.app to Shop.com.

That earlier .app address was already a substantial purchase. Shopify acquired Shop.app through Sedo for $200,000, making the reported .com price 495 times its original domain investment. Alternative extensions may offer a fashionable starting point, but this transaction reinforces that companies still place enormous importance on securing the matching .com whenever possible and are willing to spend extraordinary amounts to make that move.

During Shopify’s November 3 earnings call, President Harley Finkelstein called Shop.com an “incredible prime address.” He described the purchase as an investment in Shop’s credibility and discoverability as a consumer shopping destination, and said traffic was growing faster on the web than in the app.

Elsewhere in the same DNJournal report, another detail stands out: seven of the first ten entries used extensions other than .com. Four were .ai names, two were .si, and one was .xyz. The chart covers reported sales for October 19 through November 1, rather than the year or the all-time rankings. The .si results were particularly notable: Lambda.si sold for $100,000, Life.si for $56,000, and Pure.si for $26,880, putting two in the top ten and three in the top 20.

Slovenia’s .si country-code extension began attracting noticeable investor interest in the first half of 2026 as a potential abbreviation for “super intelligence,” followed by a registration surge in September. These latest sales put substantial prices behind that interest, although widespread adoption by operating businesses remains unproven.

The three highest sales in the report were still .coms. Other extensions are attracting substantial purchases, but Shopify’s move from a $200,000 .app alternative to a reported $99 million .com once again raises the bar for the biggest domain sales of all time. What’s next? A $100 million sale now seems well within reach.
