NamesCon Global 2020 Domain Auction to Include Two “Good Cause” Domain Sales

January 27, 2020 By John Colascione 1 Comment

*** Here Is A List Of Some Of The Best Domain Name Resources Available ***

PALM BEACH, FL – If you will be participating in the live domain auction which will take place Thursday, January 30 at the Omni Hotel (Downtown) in Austin Texas, you’ll have the chance to not only scoop up what will likely be some great domain deals, but you’ll also be able to help contribute with two sales having a portion of their proceeds benefiting domainers directions.com and toolchest.com.

When the action begins at 4:30 pm Central Standard Time, you’ll want to pay special attention to paddles and online bidding surrounding the domain names directions.com and toolchest.com as 50% of commissions upon sale will be donated to the Internet Commerce Association (The ICA).

The names, listed by ICA Members, Matt Wegrzyn (directions.com) and Shane Cultra (toolchest.com) are generic domains now parked at Godaddy Auctions (GoDaddy is the new owner of NamesCon). Significantly, the domain name Directions.com generates between $200 – $600 per month in domain parking revenue (It averages $387/month, according to the ICA which were provided by Matt Wegrzyn).

The sale of these domain names are expected to benefit the entire domain community as the Internet Commerce Association (ICA) has been one of the loudest voices in Washington D.C. and around the world when it comes to issues directly related to the rights of domain name owners as well as the industry and the rights of entrepreneurs to effectively do business in the niche of domains, whether as an investor, developer or just a general domain owner.

As a case in point, if not for the efforts of the ICA, this last year or so of news surrounding price caps being removed and community comments [over 3,500] being ignored by ICANN would likely of had a small fraction of the airtime the issues have enjoyed thus far, which is critical to ensuring that public debate can be had, and better decisions made. In particular, the Register, comes to mind from several of their investigative stories hammering ICANN on transparency.

I’ve had a back seat to all of these issues spiraling around these last couple of years much like anyone else, but the right story, pushed the right way, to the right media outlet or the right legislator, is all that is needed to take a sinking ship and drag it to the shore. But who is out there advocating for your right to maintain your domain portfolio as you see fit, or to do so without burdening you with ever increasing prices? You guessed it; not many organizations.

Domain names listed in the auction, especially over the last few years generally close at wholesale prices, so what you could pick up this year will likely be worth more on the retail market just months later. For example, in 2017 SportsCars.com found a new owner for just $48,000. A great domain name, yet it still sits undeveloped.

The NamesCon / RightOfTheDot domain auction event will take place Thursday, January 30, 2020 between 4:30pm CST- 7:30pm CST.  Pre-bidding / Extended Auction started on December 1, 2019 and is running through February 14, 2020.

NamesCon is widely recognized as the world’s number-one domaining conference with the Global 2020 event itself taking place from Wednesday, Jan 29, 2020, 10:00 AM to Saturday, Feb 1, 2020, 4:00 PM CST at the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown, 700 San Jacinto at 7th Street, Austin, TX 78701.

There is still time to grab tickets. All the info on the auction can be found online here and to bid remotely visit this link.
