How Much Does It Cost to Build A Mobile App For My Website? Do I “Need” One?

PALM BEACH, FL – One of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to building and maintaining your own mobile app is that the development phase is a set-it and forget it endeavor; it is never over.

How Much Does It Cost?

The cost to maintain a custom app can be steep ($10k-$100k) and each time IOS and Android release an update, most apps will need to have their code modified for the new version so developers must be within reach or on-board continually. This creates a situation where the cost to maintain the app is ongoing.

Do I Even “Need” One?

This past July, Google announced it would be discontinuing its AdSense app in favor of furthering its mobile site version through Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) and an app-like experience. According to Google, only a third of users were using the app to connect to AdSense and the company believes that allowing it to focus on one common version for mobile users will allow them to deliver features optimized for mobile faster.

By investing in a common web application that supports all platforms, we will be able to deliver AdSense features optimized for mobile much faster than we can today.” “The AdSense Android and iOS apps will be deprecated in the coming months, and will be discontinued and removed from the app stores by the end of 2019.”

Site owners should consider whether an app is a necessity to begin with when there are other technologies available which simulate the app experience.
