RESTON, VA – Verisign Inc., the authoritative registry for the .com, .net, and .name generic top-level domains and the .cc country-code top-level domains, recently announced that August is the last month to register or renew your .com domain name and save some money before prices are increased this upcoming September.

Once September 1 hits, Verisign stated they will increase the wholesale price of annual .com registration and renewals from $8.97 to $9.59, an increase of 62 cents; this is on top of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) per domain fee of 18 cents.

Given this announcement and Verisign’s status of the operator of a diverse array of network infrastructure – including two of the Internet’s thirteen root nameservers – domain owners can expect their registrar to increase their renewal and or registration fees next month if they don’t act now.

That being the case, this is an opportunity for those who own domains that they know they will be utilizing for numerous years to save some money; domain owners can actually lock in their current renewal fees for up to a full decade if they renew prior to September 1. Considering the fact that Verisign is expected to continuously raise their prices on .com domains for the foreseeable future, it only makes sense to renew for as long as you can now.

It should be noted that Verisign will be forced to undergo a two-year price freeze at the end of 2024; however, before that freeze takes effect, the company will be allowed to increase wholesale prices on domain registration and renewal to up to $10.26 per year. So, if you’re interested in locking in the current $8.97 fee for up to the next 10 years, you have less than one month to act before it’s too late.
