He bought out smaller Long Island rival publications — MyLongIsland.com and others — while simultaneously running Long Island Exchange. When the premium domain LongIsland.com was auctioned in 2010 for $370,000 (won by Ralph Cristello), Colascione had been the other active bidder. Rather than retreating, he turned a competitor into a partner — by 2015, he and Cristello merged their operations into Long Island Media Inc., creating a unified network serving over one million monthly readers and generating approximately $1.5 million in annual revenue by 2016.
