Ebay.com to Begin Collecting Internet Sales Taxes Regardless of Physical Presence
NEW YORK, NY – Back in June of this year, the US Supreme Court made a ruling on Internet sales tax that overturned the long-standing physical presence requirement which prevented sales tax to be collected from certain online sellers. This change means that regardless of where you’re physically located, if you sell to buyers in certain states, those states may require you to collect applicable taxes on your transactions.
For Ebay.com sellers, the service will begin to calculate, collect, and remit sales tax for orders shipped to customers in the following states on the following schedule:
- Washington—starting Jan 1, 2019
- Pennsylvania— starting July 1, 2019
- Oklahoma—starting July 1, 2019
If you are an Ebay.com seller check out this recent update released about the process. If you’re not an Ebay.com seller but do sell on other platforms, in other states, use this information to prepare for a host of upcoming changes you’ll need to make if your online sales are taxable.
Ebay.com has been continuing to fight for a more realistic solution such as a federal standard for internet sellers to simplify the process of dealing with multiple regions and replacing it with a federal mandate across all states in the US.
The petition has so far gathered over one million signatures and delivered them to Congress.
